Theme Weeks

What are our theme weeks about?

At Maple School, our Theme Weeks provide a rich and engaging curriculum that enables pupils to explore the world around them, develop an understanding of themselves and others, and build the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to thrive in modern Britain. Our Theme Weeks create meaningful opportunities for pupils to engage with topical, relevant and diverse issues that extend beyond the classroom and connect learning to real-life experiences.

Through carefully planned themes such as Inclusion and Belonging, Mental Health and Resilience, Human Rights and Equality, Faith, Belief and Worldviews, Neurodiversity Celebration, Community Action, and Global Cultures and Heritage, pupils are supported to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their communities and the wider world. These experiences encourage curiosity, empathy and critical thinking while helping pupils appreciate diversity, challenge prejudice and recognise their role as active members of society.

A central aim of our Theme Weeks is to strengthen pupils' social and emotional development. Through discussion, reflection, collaborative activities and real-world experiences, pupils learn to recognise and understand different perspectives, communicate their views appropriately, develop positive relationships and build resilience. Opportunities to explore identity, belonging, rights, responsibilities and equality help pupils develop confidence, self-awareness and emotional literacy in a safe and supportive environment.

Theme Weeks also provide a key vehicle for delivering the school's Religious Education curriculum and Fundamental British Values. Pupils explore themes linked to identity and belonging, community and cohesion, values and ethics, religion and worldviews, rights and responsibilities, peace and discrimination, and personal meaning and reflection. Through this work they develop the skills of empathy, communication, critical thinking, evaluation, reflection and independent thinking, enabling them to participate positively in society and make informed decisions about the world around them.
