Pupil Premium
Pupil premium is additional funding given to schools to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in England.
Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils.
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for:
Free School Meals- Pupils recorded in the school census who are known to have been eligible for free school meals since May 2013
LAC and Post-LAC – Pupils adopted from care or who have left care
Service Children- Pupils whose parents work in the armed forces
Statement of Intent
All pupils at The Maple School have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at the core of a complex profile of additional challenges. These needs have often prevented them from achieving success or reaching their full potential in mainstream or alternative provision. Many of our pupils arrive after extended periods of disrupted education, with some having accessed only a few hours of learning each day. For several pupils, The Maple represents their fourth or fifth school placement within their educational journey and we want to help pupils feel a sense of belonging.
Our overarching aim is to ensure that every disadvantaged pupil, regardless of their starting point or personal circumstances, is supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to closing the attainment gap while fostering resilience, self-worth, and the essential life skills required to succeed in the wider community.
Our current pupil premium strategy is designed to meet both the academic and SEMH needs of our learners. We deliver targeted teaching interventions alongside personalised pastoral support, planned therapeutic provision, and enrichment opportunities. This holistic approach ensures that barriers to learning—whether emotional, behavioural, or social—are identified early and addressed comprehensively, enabling pupils to make sustained progress.
