Subjects

At The Maple School, we have designed a curriculum that meets the unique needs of our pupils, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding essential for success and positive progression—whether they continue their education, pursue further training, or enter employment.

Our mission is for every pupil to “Learn and Thrive.”

We understand that success begins with being ready to learn. For many of our pupils, Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges create significant barriers to learning. To overcome these obstacles, our approach is both trauma-informed and based on Unconditional Positive Regard, ensuring that we acknowledge and address the impact of trauma on early childhood development.

Many pupils join us following a difficult or disrupted educational experience, making re-engagement in learning a top priority. By offering opportunities tailored to their individual needs—as outlined in their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs)—we capture their interest and ignite their imagination. Our goal is to create a positive, supportive learning environment where every pupil feels included and valued. This commitment extends learning beyond the classroom, integrating academic instruction with experiential opportunities that build cultural and social capital.

Our curriculum is designed around the needs of our learners and has a primary aim of supporting them to have the necessary social skills and empathetic understanding, foundational skills and life skills to contribute positively to society. We offer the following subjects at The Maple School.

Our enrichment and life and learning offer provides exciting opportunities for our learners to explore learning beyond a traditional academic offer. These opportunities are provided through a combination of our own internal staff and also through the use of external providers such as Blackpool FC Community Trust.
