Our Life and Learning curriculum is delivered through a carefully planned, spiral approach that enables pupils to revisit key concepts and develop increasing independence over time. Learning is highly practical, experiential and rooted in real-life contexts, ensuring that skills can be applied beyond the classroom. Through cooking and nutrition, creative arts, digital life skills, community participation, life skills and preparation for adulthood, pupils engage in meaningful activities that develop communication, resilience, self-management and problem-solving skills. Teaching is personalised to meet individual needs, with opportunities for community engagement, travel training, work-related learning, independent living skills and recognised accreditation pathways. The curriculum is further strengthened through enrichment opportunities, Duke of Edinburgh awards, ASDAN programmes, Bikeability, first aid training, food hygiene qualifications and bespoke pathways that reflect pupils' interests, aspirations and future destinations.

Our Impact

The impact of our Life and Learning curriculum is seen in pupils who are increasingly confident, independent and prepared for adulthood. Pupils develop the practical skills required to manage daily life safely and successfully, including communication, personal organisation, travel, financial literacy, digital competence and community engagement. They are equipped to make informed decisions, build positive relationships and contribute meaningfully to society. Through a broad portfolio of accredited outcomes and qualifications, pupils gain recognised achievements that celebrate both academic and personal success, while supporting progression into further education, employment, training and independent living. As pupils move through the curriculum they develop greater resilience, self-esteem and self-advocacy, leaving school with the knowledge, qualifications and life skills needed to thrive in their next stage of life.

Our Life and Learning curriculum is designed to build independence, confidence and real-world readiness, ensuring that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and personal attributes needed for a successful adulthood. Through a carefully sequenced, spiral curriculum, pupils revisit and deepen key concepts across areas including life skills, preparation for adulthood, digital technologies, creative arts, cooking and nutrition, community participation and religious education. We implement this curriculum through practical, hands-on learning experiences, real-life contexts, community engagement and personalised opportunities that enable pupils to apply their learning meaningfully. By focusing on communication, resilience, problem-solving, self-management and social development, we support pupils to become confident, active and independent members of their communities.
